MD-Anaesthesiology - GITAM

Study MD (Anaesthesiology)

The Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesiology (M.D.) program is a full-time study that lasts for two years and is broken up into four semesters, each semester lasting six months. Outside the operating room, anaesthesiology emphasizes the positive aspects and scope of the speciality, such as trauma, critical care, and pain management.

In medicine, an anaesthesiologist is essentially a highly trained pain specialist specializing in treating patients.

Depending on the educational institution providing the programme, the programme fee in India can range anywhere from INR 10,000 to 8 Lakhs on average. In India, postgraduates who complete the programme can expect anywhere from INR 10 to 12 Lakhs to be offered a starting salary. This figure depends on the candidate's experience level in the relevant industry.

  • Physiology – Anaesthesia theories, Nervous peripheral systems, ECG, N-M Junction

Scope in M.D. (Anaesthesiology)

M.D. Teaching positions are available in both the public and private sectors, as well as in a variety of other settings, such as nursing homes, health centres, laboratories, public and private hospitals, private practices, and businesses owned by anaesthesiologists.

Career Options in M.D. (Anaesthesiology)

The field of anaesthesiology is widely regarded as one of the most rewarding specializations in the medical industry. Anaesthesiologists are the medical professionals in charge of administering anaesthesia before surgical procedures.

They are only needed during the procedures and don't need to remain in the hospital for a significant time. Therefore, candidates who are not interested in pursuing a career as a physician but do have an interest in working in a surgical environment are the ideal candidates for this programme.

Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetists, or CRNAs, are advanced practice registered nurses capable of controlling anaesthesia for patients before and after surgical procedures if an anaesthesiologist is absent.

CRNAs are required to work at a facility where an anaesthesiologist is on staff and can provide supervision in the form of quality control or emergency backup when it is needed. This is because CRNAs perform essential duties that anaesthesiologists are responsible for. Some of the career options are as follows:

  • Anaesthetist
  • Critical Care Specialist
  • Consultant Anaesthesia
  • Senior Resident
  • Professor
