About

The Emergency Department (ED) at GIMSR Hospital is a 13,000 sq. ft., 24/7 facility equipped with advanced technology and skilled professionals to deliver rapid, high-quality emergency care. It is designed for timely triage, stabilization, and intervention across all medical and surgical emergencies, while also serving as a teaching and training hub.

Scope of Services

  • Pre-hospital Care & Transport Medicine: Fully equipped BLS and ACLS ambulances with trained personnel provide stabilization at the scene and seamless hospital transfer.
  • Medical & Surgical Emergencies: Prompt management of cardiac, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal, and acute surgical crises.
  • Trauma & Polytrauma: Comprehensive protocols for accident victims, falls, and multi-injury cases.
  • Pediatric & Obstetric Emergencies: Specialized care for critically ill children, newborns, and high-risk pregnancies.
  • Toxicology & Environmental Injuries: Management of poisoning, chemical exposure, burns, and environmental hazards.
  • Bites, Stings & Allergic Reactions: Immediate care for venomous bites, insect stings, and severe anaphylaxis.
  • Disaster & Mass Casualty Response: Structured preparedness for large-scale emergencies.
  • Victims of Abuse & Violence: Sensitive care, including stabilization, psychological support.

Emergency Zone-Wise Infrastructure

The department houses a total of 40 dedicated emergency beds, efficiently distributed across color-coded critical care zones:

Red Zone (Critical Life-saving Interventions) 4 Beds
Yellow Zone (Moderate Severity, Urgent Stabilization) 8 Beds
Green Zone (Non-urgent Emergency Care) 10 Beds
Emergency ICU (Intensive care with isolation capability) 7 Beds
Procedure Room 1 Bed
Decontamination Room 1 Bed
Labor Room 1 Bed
Black Zone (Mortuary/Hold Mortal Remains) 1 Bed
Burns Unit 3 Beds

Each zone is fully equipped to deliver targeted emergency care as per national and international standards.

Bedside diagnostics for rapid decision and interventions including:

  • ABG with co-oximetry
  • Biochemistry Panel 
  • Glucose monitoring.
  • ECG & Cardiac Markers.
  • Urine Analysis.
  • Blood Analysis
  • Coagulation Profiles.
  • Urine Toxicology Screen for Poisonings 
  • Rapid Infectious Disease Tests.
  • Portable X-ray Unit
  • Ultrasound and 2D Echocardiography

Advanced Medical Equipment

The ED is equipped with all the basic and advanced equipment :

  • Advanced patient transport systems.
  • Crash carts, Defibrillators with pacing.
  • Infusion & Syringe pumps
  • Interosseous access devices
  • Fluid warmers.
  • Ultrasonic nebulizers 
  • Ventilators with ETCO₂ monitoring.
  • Multi-parameter monitors with invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
