
Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy at GIMSR institute stands as a beacon of excellence in clinical care, skin health education and research. Our mission is to provide high-quality dermatological care to patients across all economic backgrounds. The department has been incorporating the latest treatment protocols and contributing remarkably with an ultimate goal to provide the best possible care to patients to meet their diverse needs.
We provide outpatient and in-patient services, weekly sub-speciality clinics and personalized treatment plans. Our clinical services cover conditions such as infections, infestations, papulo-squamous disorders, auto-immune diseases, blistering disorders, STDs, psycho-cutaneous, pre-malignant & malignant conditions with a specific mention of leprosy and HIV. With the advanced equipment available, we are providing various Dermato-Surgical and Aesthetic procedures as day care procedures.
Well qualified and experienced faculty besides treating patients, are also constantly engaged in teaching and training of undergraduates, postgraduates, paramedical and nursing students besides research work and keeping abreast with the latest in the field by attending scientific conferences, CMEs, and workshops. Faculty and PGs are actively involved in organizing and conducting national and state health education programmes.
Undergraduate Training (MBBS): Our department provides comprehensive training to undergraduates in clinical dermatology, sexually transmitted diseases, and leprosy. Students learn the fundamentals of clinical history-taking, physical examination, diagnosis, and management of common dermatological conditions. They gain experience through structured rotation in outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.
Postgraduate Training (MD DVL): Our department maintains a strong commitment to academic excellence, adhering strictly to a well-structured postgraduate teaching schedule. Regular academic activities such as seminars, journal clubs, guest lectures, clinico-pathological case discussions and case presentations are an integral part of the curriculum. Post-graduation students are actively encouraged and guided to present posters and papers at state and national conferences, fostering their academic and research potential. They are also trained to efficiently manage dermatological emergencies, ensuring comprehensive skill development. Workshops and conferences are conducted to gain hands-on experience.

The department has an aesthetic clinic with state-of-the-art laser equipment (Fractional Co₂ Laser, Q Switched Nd: YAG Laser, Long pulsed Nd: YAG Laser, Diode laser, IPL, MNRF, and Non-ablative RF).
C) Skin Laboratory
Diagnostic outpatient-based and bedside investigations like KOH Mount examination, slit skin smear, Tzanck smear, Gram staining ,and AFB Staining evaluation are carried out on a regular basis in our well-maintained skin laboratory.
D) Photo Therapy Room
The department is equipped with a whole body NBUVB phototherapy unit, PUVA/NBUVB hand foot panel unit and excimer laser for targeted phototherapy.
E) Minor OT:
The department maintains a well-equipped procedure room, where minor investigative and therapeutic procedures are carried out routinely.

Dr. Farzana, Associate Professor, has been included in a national multicentric study on autoimmune blistering diseases funded by IADVL (Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists).
