The Department of Pathology is dedicated to excellence in medical education, diagnostics, and research. Museum has 440 mounted specimens, 30 wet specimens along with several charts and models.
Two demonstration rooms, one seminar hall, one museum, one practical hall, one research lab, faculty and P.G. rooms are also available in the department.
Services offered in the Department
The department offers a wide range of diagnostic services in hematology, cytology, clinical Pathology & Histopathology& blood bank.
Hematology – Consists of 6part Sysmex analyser, 3part Nihon-Koden analyser, Erba coagulation analyser& QBC centrifuge along with fluorescent microscope.
Cytology – consists of Epredia cytospin(Liquid based cytology); offers Fine needle aspiration cytology, pap smear and body fluid analysis.
The department also offers basic diagnostic Immunohistochemistry panel with ER, PR, Her2 neu and Ki67 along with special stains.
Availability of grossing station in histopathology.
Availability of cryostat.
Clinical Pathology – has urine auto analyser, offers urine analysis and semen analysis.
Blood bank offers blood components and apheresis.
Academics in the Department
Yearly intake of three M.D Pathology students. First batch of students have passed out successfully in Jan 2025. Currently 4th batch of PG students were admitted.
Involved in teaching Pathology to students pursuing M.D Pathology, M.B.B.S, M.D.S, B.D.S, B.Sc. nursing, B.Sc. paramedical & physiotherapy courses.
Conducting Lectures, topic seminars, slide seminars, slide tests, journal clubs, clinicopathological correlation forum and thesis reviews for post graduates.
Involves lectures, Small group teaching, Integrated teaching, self-directed learning sessions, practical classes, seminars, demonstrations, tutorials, including AETCOM for MBBS students.
Formative and internal assessments for UG and PG students.
Conferences & workshops
DIY IHC workshop conducted in March 2024 in collaboration with Cytelabs, Bengaluru & Diagnostic Biosystems, Hyderabad - 57 delegates participated from all over India.
Good clinical laboratory practises workshop conducted in July 2024 – 52 delegates participated.
Breast cancer awareness week in October 2024.
Cervical cancer screening on 6th November 2024.

Dr.P.Josephine Bindu, Post graduate student secured first prize in quiz competition in golden jubilee CME, Karnataka, August, 2023.
Dr.P.Josephine Bindu, Post graduate student secured third prize in quiz competition at IAPM state conference in September, 2023.
Many faculties underwent training in Internal audit & quality management system as per ISO 15189:2022.
All faculties have successfully completed Basic course in biomedical research.
Many faculties have been trained in Curriculum Implementation Support Programme and revised basic course workshop in medical education.
