Biochemistry is the language of Biology. The tools for research in all branches of Medical Sciences are based on Principles of Biochemistry. The Department of Biochemistry was established in 2014.
The Biochemistry department is involved in teaching and training undergraduate students from M.B.B.S, B.D.S, B.Sc. Nursing, Bachelor of Physiotherapy and B.Sc. Allied Health Science courses.
The Department of Biochemistry is run by a group of experienced and talented doctors who also provide diagnostic laboratory services to outpatients and inpatients of GIMSR hospital.
The faculty actively participates in design and implementation of the competence based undergraduate Medical education curriculum and also plays a leading role in coordination of Phase-I program for medical students. We employ innovative teaching learning methods to enable students to understand the biochemical pathways through an interactive approach.
The diagnostic laboratory works round the clock and is committed to maintaining the highest quality of performance using the latest technology and equipment that enables us to provide rapid and reliable results for the patient in the shortest turnaround time. The diagnostic lab is participating in the proficiency testing program. Faculty members and technicians of the department have undergone training in laboratory quality management and internal audit as per ISO 15189:2022.
The faculty are involved extensively in research activities related to basic, clinical and translational biomedical research. Faculty are encouraged to apply for intramural and extramural funding and the students are encouraged to do ICMR-STS projects under the guidance of faculty. The aim of the department is to enable the students to comprehend the relevance of biochemistry in their fields. This will facilitate to apply the knowledge in achieving their professional goals.
24 X 7 diagnostic services in the Central laboratory, GIMSR hospital.
Faculty are actively involved in the academic activity by participating in departmental seminars and journal club, by attending CME programs.
Students are encouraged to adopt innovative learning methods (eg: Self directed learning, flipped classes, seminars, Role play).
