Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane, MD, PhD, serves as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Medical Sciences at the GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR). A distinguished leader in medical education and research, she brings decades of academic and administrative expertise from her tenure at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, and as the Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. Her career is marked by a deep commitment to advancing healthcare education and fostering innovation.

Dr Batmanabane’s extensive experience includes international collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), where she was the first Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Training and Research in Essential Medicines and Rational Use of Medicines at JIPMER. She has played a pivotal role in faculty development as the Convenor of the Medical Council of India’s Regional Centre for Faculty Development Programmes and Head of the Department of Medical Education at JIPMER. A trained pharmacologist, she has been instrumental in shaping medical curricula and research initiatives, ensuring a balance between scientific advancement and compassionate patient care.

Under her leadership, GIMSR continues to thrive as a centre for academic excellence, intellectual discourse, and groundbreaking research.
