Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

GITAM's Sociology programme offers a thoughtfully curated curriculum that combines theoretical, methodological, and empirical/thematic/ethnographic/case-study content. This balanced approach equips students with a global perspective while fostering a deep appreciation for local nuances and cultivating strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

By studying Sociology at our Visakhapatnam campus, you'll gain valuable insights into the complexities of the social world, including analysis of social hierarchies of gender, caste, class, locality and the persistent barriers between different social strata.

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology

Scope of the Programme

GITAM’s Sociology program comprehensively explores the complexities of individuals, societies, and social interactions. Our curriculum encompasses fundamental sociological concepts, research methodologies, ethnography, data handling, and other relevant disciplines. Beyond theoretical knowledge, our program fosters a commitment to research, innovation, and social entrepreneurship. By integrating practical experience with theoretical understanding, we prepare graduates to become actively engaged and socially responsible citizens.

The department equips students with analytical research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches, empowering them to effectively apply these tools in diverse fields. Students also have the opportunity to pursue various courses from other schools and departments as minors or open electives, enriching their classroom experience and exposing them to diverse perspectives on social issues.
