Center for Gandhian Studies

Centre for Gandhian Studies is a stand-alone research centre under the GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences, GITAM Deemed to be University. Centre for Gandhian Studies engages with interdisciplinary teaching (University Core Course- Gandhian Ethics and Morals) and research to develop alternative knowledge systems for contemporary crises.

Scope

The Centre for Gandhian Studies aspires to a more just and peaceful world.

Objectives

Promote multidisciplinary research on rural development, peacebuilding, nonviolence, sustainable livelihood, and gender equality.
Collaborate with other academic institutions on the core research areas of nonviolence, peace and conflict resolution, peace education, sustainable development, and environmental conservation.
Introduce academic programmes in Peace Studies, Gandhian Thought, and community service.
Introduce field work/community service to the Liberal Education students to equip them with social work / public administration/policy analysis skills.
