The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India has recognized the department for its research activities and supported during 2012 - 2017 under FIST scheme.

The pride of the department lies in research, consultancy and the projects sponsored by National funding agencies like DRDO, UGC, DST, VRDE, CVRDE, etc, industries like HPCL and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL).The department has many modern facilities to enable research in the thrust areas such as nano-technology, condition monitoring, composites etc., which spreads towards wide technological areas.
