Department of Political Science

Politics is ubiquitous. It is an inseparable part of our daily life. It influences every policy that shapes our living conditions and prospects. Political Science is a systematic study of politics and policy.

Career Prospects

A degree in Political Science from GITAM opens up numerous career opportunities. The courses will benefit students planning to write the Union Public Service Commission and State Public Service Commission Exams, and those interested in pursuing PG through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Besides, the program also prepares students for a career in academics and research. Students also have the option of joining political consultancies, NGOs, think tanks, media and publication houses. The B.A. program aims to groom future leaders and train them to make a positive contribution towards society.

Courses

The Department of Political Science in GSHSS offers undergraduate programmes at four levels in accordance with NEP 2020, across the Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru campuses. The Department of Political Science in GITAM Hyderabad also offers Ph.D. in Political Science. The Department has highly qualified faculty with doctoral degrees from premier institutes from across India and abroad.

The courses offered cover all major subfields within Political Science like Political Theory, International Relations, Indian Constitution and Political Process, and Public Policy. Our B.A. Program encourages students to engage with the broader theoretical and conceptual debates within the discipline. The Department also encourages students to connect theoretical concepts to everyday realities which would enable them to question and critically analyze socio-political issues.
