GITAM Bengaluru’s partnership with Sirena Technologies has led to the creation of a dedicated R&D centre focused on next-generation robotics and embedded AI. Established through a formal MoU, this lab brings Sirena’s industry expertise directly into GITAM’s academic ecosystem, allowing students to engage in live, product-oriented research and development.
The centre supports student-led projects that are jointly supervised by GITAM faculty and engineers from Sirena. These projects are grounded in real-world use cases and aligned with Sirena’s commercial product pipeline, offering students a unique opportunity to work on systems that are designed for market deployment.
Key focus areas include humanoid robotics, educational robotics kits, smart factory systems, and AI-driven embedded platforms. The lab is equipped with humanoid robotic kits developed in-house by Sirena, actuator testing beds, servo control systems, and access to cloud-based AI simulation tools. Students also work with proprietary firmware and technical documentation typically used in industrial R&D environments.
The nature of the work is tightly linked to industry outcomes. Students co-develop educational kits and humanoid systems, pilot test field-ready prototypes, and follow structured validation pathways including TRL (Technology Readiness Level) protocols. The goal is not academic demonstration alone, but IP refinement, prototype readiness, and commercial applicability.
Entry to the centre is competitive, based on aptitude tests and interviews. Selected students gain access to internships, mentorship from Sirena’s senior engineers, and hands-on training on industrial hardware and embedded AI tools. In addition to regular projects, the centre also hosts summer schools and winter workshops on advanced robotics topics.
Early outputs have been promising. Students have built functional prototypes such as classroom assistants and companion robots, showcased their work at GITAM TechFest, and gained attention in regional innovation networks. These projects are already contributing to GITAM’s growing profile in applied AI and robotics.
More broadly, the Sirena R&D Centre reflects GITAM’s commitment to industry-integrated education. It helps build cross-functional, product-ready student capabilities, supports IP development, and strengthens the Bengaluru campus as a platform for emerging technology collaborations and deep-tech incubation under the Venture Development Centre.
