Dr. Errol D'Souza is a distinguished economist, academic leader, and former Director of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A). With over three decades of experience in academia, policy advisory, and institutional governance, he brings a wealth of expertise to GITAM’s transformative journey in applied education and translational research.

Academic and Research Excellence

Dr. D’Souza earned his M.A. in Economics from the University of Mumbai, where he was awarded the Kashinath Trimbak Telang gold medal for academic excellence. He later completed his Ph.D. at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, as a University Grants Commission (UGC) National

Research Fellow. His academic career includes prestigious global appointments:

  • IFCI Chair Professor, University of Mumbai
  • India Chair Professor, Sciences Po, Paris
  • Visiting Scholar, Columbia University
  • Honorary Senior Fellow, National University of Singapore
  • Visiting Professor, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla

His research spans macroeconomics, development finance, and public policy, with editorial board positions at the Journal of Quantitative Economics (Springer), Indian Journal of Labour Economics (Springer), and Macroeconomics and Finance in Emerging Market Economies (Taylor & Francis).

Dr. D’Souza has served in key advisory roles for India’s top economic institutions, including:

  • Board Member, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy
  • Former Director, National Housing Bank
