Research Support Services

KRC provides various research support services for GITAM Researchers.

  • Open Access publications: GITAM University signs transformative agreement with Wiley, ACM, and Cambridge University Press through which our authors are getting 100% APC waivers in their gold and hybrid open access journals. Even the publishers like Bentham Science and the Royal Society of Chemistry provide an APC waiver to our publishers as a complementary benefit with a limited article.
  • Article on request: KRC accepts the requested article from the user and collects and provides it to the user as per their request.
  • Plagiarism checking services: GITAM University subscribes to the Turnitin plagiarism detection software with AI facility for its researchers. KRC provides the various services to its users. URL: https://www.turnitin.com/
  • Researcher’s Profile: IRINS KRC have developed the IRINS for the university faculty, through which a faculty member can know their H-Index, i-10 index and other information about their publication and research output. URL: https://gitam.irins.org/
  • Shodhganga: It is a thesis Repository of Indian researchers and developed and maintained by INFLIBNET. KRC, uploading the awarded PhD theses after receiving from the the academic affairs. URL: https://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/
  • Single window search Engine: KRC subscribes to the EBSCO Discovery services, which is called a single window search engine, through which a user can learn about the availability of e-content from subscribed and open access resources. URL: https://research.ebsco.com/c/i45f5a/search
  • GITAM Publication Finder: EBSCO has developed the GITAM publication finder for GITAM researchers, which provides information about the various publishers’ e-journals, databases, and other information. It helps the researchers to find suitable journals for their article. URL: https://publications.ebsco.com/?custId=ns241360&groupId=main&profileId=pfui
  • End Note: Reference generation software KRC subscribes to the Web of Science, an indexing and Citation database resource, and our users access EndNote, a reference generation tool through it. URL: https://access.clarivate.com/login?app=endnote
  • Publishers Workshop: KRC organises various publishers' webinars and workshops every month, both physically and online.

Library Services

  • Lending Services: This service provides access to the book collections and issues books to registered library users as per library rules. The KRC lending section works according to library rules and regulations, to library rights and responsibilities, borrowing privileges, checkouts and renewals, reviewing patron records, paying fines for overdue or lost books and placing online hold requests. A user can renew the library book through Web OPAC before it is overdue. The library is using both barcode and QR code for its transactions. 

    A member can borrow the books from the lending section of KRC and the library of the concerned department. The books in the reference section can be allowed for check-in or checkout as short loan. KRC collects a fine of Rs. 5/- per day per book after due dates. 

  • Reference Services: KRC has a separate reference sections i.e. Reference Section 1 & 2. All the reference books are kept in this section At each section, reference staff will help users find the required information. They also guide the users in tracing books and other online resources. The reference books are not available for loan. 

  • Digital Resources Services: KRC have subscribed to different types of digital resources for its users. It subscribes to publishers' e-journals, e-books (perpetual & subscription) and e-databases. To provide users with remote access, GITAM subscribes to Open Athens so that users can access the e-resources from any place at any time.  
  • Digital library: KRC has a digital library with forty computers with all the facilities. 
  • Reprographic/Printing/Scanning: KRC provides the reprographic, printing, and scanning facility to library users through a third-party vendor. 
  • KRC Digital Space: It is the repository of KRC. It contains the e-books (perpetual), Previous examination Question papers, thesis, NPTEL Videos, images, audio clips and various user guides. 
  • OPAC/Web OPAC: KRC has Web OPAC, through which users will learn the bibliographic details about a book and other information. A user will renew the lending books through it before due date. It is available 24/7 for the users. GITAM KRC: https://librarysystem.gitam.edu/ 
  • Inter library loan: KRC is a member of DELNET and maintains the union catalogue of books of member institutions like IITS and other institutes. Users are benefiting from an inter-library loan from DELNET and from the other campuses of GITAM. 
  • Library User Awareness programme: KRC organises user orientation programs for the newcomers and department-wise at regular intervals. It provides information about the bibliographic instruction, inter-library loans, and the user orientation programme. It organises various publishers programmes regularly. 
  • Kindle lending services: KRC Visakhapatnam provides its users with Kindle lending and reference services. 
  • Short Loan Collection: To increase the reading habit among its users, KRC introduced a short loan collection, which allows users to lend fiction and non-fiction books for seven days without renewal. 
  • Institutional Membership: KRC has membership in DELNET, NDLI, INFLIBNET, Current Science, Sugamya Pustakalya, or the DAISY forum in India. KRC users can access all these institutions' facilities, services, and resources. 

  • Information Literacy: KRC prioritises developing skills among information literacy users. To educate the users on digital sources, KRC is organising a user orientation programme and sending information on new activities to its users at regular intervals from time to time. KRC has generated the QR code for all the e-resources and pasted it on the notice board of GITAM University for its wide use. 

  • New Arrival Information: KRC provides information about the new arrivals of books to its users regularly every month. 

  • Know the Day and Week: KRC, Visakhapatnam, displays books about special days and highlights them as Know the Day or Week. 

  • Library of things: KRC, Visakhapatnam, has a rare collection of items like rare books, old coins, postal materials, old electronic gadgets, and many other materials and displays them for users as the Library of Things. 

  • Physically Challenged: KRC gives much importance to physically challenged people. For them, KRC has basic infrastructure facilities like a wheelchair, a ramp, wide doors, washrooms and a lift.KRC have a separate room for the physically disabled, particularly for the visually impaired users. For them, we have the JAWS software for Windows (Screen Reading Software for Blind Version 17.0 (3ILM Keys), ZOOM-EX (Camera for Blind & Low Vision) and OPTIMA Distance View Glass. JAWS, Job Access with Speech, is the world's most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing the screen. 
    The library is a member of the Sugamya Pustakalya or DAISY forum of India.
