The GITAM Knowledge Resource Center (KRC) serves as a hub for learning, research, and knowledge exchange. We support our student, faculty, and research communities by providing access to vast collections and resources from around the globe. For over four decades, our mission has been to enhance the pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence.
The library facilities at GITAM have evolved alongside the university’s academic programmes. The journey began in 1980 with the establishment of a library for the College of Engineering, followed by the College of Management Studies in 1988 and GIFT in 1997. Recognising the need to centralise resources for better accessibility and efficiency, GITAM took a visionary step in constructing a state-of-the-art central library. This iconic facility, commissioned in 2002, was later transformed into the Knowledge Resource Center (KRC)—a hub of academic excellence.
Located in the heart of the campus, the KRC offers a panoramic view of Rushikonda’s scenic hillocks, lush green landscapes, and the expansive blue ocean. The serene surroundings complement the library’s peaceful and scholarly environment, fostering an ideal space for learning and research.
KRC is a multi-storeyed, fully air-conditioned facility that blends traditional and digital learning resources. It houses an extensive collection of textbooks, reference books, scientific and technical journals, and standards in both print and digital formats. Constantly evolving to meet user needs, KRC integrates modern technology with conventional library services to support academic and research activities effectively.
Inspired by Dr S R Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science, KRC embodies the essence of a library as a trinity of learning resources, faculty, students, and library staff. Patrons visit to access, read, consult, and borrow print materials, while its vast collection of e-resources enables remote access for enhanced learning.
KRC is structured into multiple specialised sections, including acquisition, technical processing, circulation, and textbooks for diverse disciplines such as management, engineering, science, and humanities. Additionally, it houses a digital library, a periodical and magazine section, and dedicated facilities for physically disabled and visually challenged users, equipped with assistive technologies.
KRC is a fully automated library that leverages KOHA open-source software for seamless operations. A digital repository powered by E-Print software further enhances access to scholarly resources.
As the intellectual hub of GITAM (Deemed to be University), KRC is committed to supporting the university’s vision by providing cutting-edge resources and services that empower students, faculty, and researchers.
KRC is dedicated to enhancing teaching, research, and learning at GITAM by:
KRC aspires to be a world-class academic library, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, services, and technologies. Our goal is to meet the evolving information needs of students, faculty, and researchers, ensuring excellence at national and international levels.
GITAM (Deemed to be University) operates across three campuses—Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The main administrative campus in Visakhapatnam houses KRC, while the other two campuses maintain off-site libraries.
Besides KRC, GITAM features nine institutional libraries, each supporting a specific academic discipline. These include:
KRC maintains a Union Catalogue of all institutional libraries, allowing users to check the availability of books and journals through Web OPAC. Additionally, an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) facility enables resource sharing across departmental and institutional libraries, maximising accessibility for students and faculty.
Through its extensive resources, innovative services, and commitment to excellence, KRC remains the academic backbone of GITAM, fostering a culture of knowledge, research, and lifelong learning.
