Prof.(Dr) R.Anita Rao is the Director, School of Law, GITAM (Deemed to be University). Prior to taking up this position, she was Director Saveetha University & VELS University, a Visiting Faculty at the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA), Professor, School of Law, GITAM Deemed to be University, Visakhapatnam, A.P.
She has been guest faculty at the Premier Law Schools such as NALSAR -Hyderabad and NLSIU - Bangalore, and Visiting Professor to XLRI, Jamshedpur. Prof.Rao served as Principal, NBM Law College, affiliated to Andhra University and as officer on special duty to Chairman GITAM Institutions. The position that she had held immediately before joining GITAM, was as an adjunct professor in DSNLU. She had undertaken and successfully completed major and minor UGC projects. She has delivered expert lectures at UGC sponsored programmes on Women and Justice, Intellectual Property Rights, and Medicine and Law. She is an advisor for the National Selection Committee and member NAAC Expert Committee for Redesigning Criteria for Law Schools Prof.Rao has vast experience in Curriculum Design in Law, conducting many executive development programmes for industry on IPRs and women executive development.
She has been engaged in consultancy work in Patent Process and filing. Conducted Executive Development Programme on International International Contracts with MMTC. She has also conducted One Year Diploma Courses on Alternative Dispute Resolution and on Entrepreneurship. Prof.Rao is a Member of the Advisory Committee, Centre for Women Studies, Andhra University; Indian Society for Health Laws and Ethics (ISHLE), New Delhi; Research Committee Member in Indian Social Science Congress, Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi; Board of Studies for Criminal Justice, Andhra University; Chairperson, Board of Studies of Law, Saveetha University, Chennai. She is member Academic Council NLU-Delhi and DSNLU. She is guiding Ph.D candidates in Law. She has authored a Book on “Intellectual Property Rights” published by EBC publications. Her areas of expertise are in International Law, International Trade Law, Corporate Law, Intellectual Property rights. The current area of research is IPR, WTO related issues and Gender Issues, Law & Medicine. Having been exposed more than three decades to legal academia, research, industry and the profession, she had mentored many bright students who occupy high positions in the judiciary, academics and industry and hence has a vast network legal talent to interact with and to draw from.
