In
view of the great demand, growing potential for
employment and research in the field of
Biotechnology, a two year inter-disciplinary M.Sc
course in Biotechnology has been started from the
academic year 1997-98. The students are being
admitted into this course on the basis of their
ranks in common entrance test conducted by Andhra
University, Visakhapatnam. The sanctioned strength
of the students is 24. The course work in this
department is being organized to expose the students
to different thrust areas of Biotechnology (plant,
animal, marine, industrial and medical),
Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology and
Instrumentation. The practical laboratory
experiments are conducted in Biochemistry,
Biotechnology, Microbiology, Tissue culture and
molecular biology laboratories which are being
equipped with spectrophotometers, centrifuges,
electrophoretic, PCR and chromatographic apparatus
besides the common laboratory equipment.
During the academic year 1999-2000 a two year M.Sc
degree course in Microbiology has been started and
it is presently attached to the department of
Biotechnology. Admission to this course is also
based on the ranks obtained by the candidates in the
common entrance test conducted by Andhra University,
Visakhapatnam. The sanctioned strength for this
course is 24. The faculty of Biotechnology
department are offering theory and practical classes
for M.Sc Microbiology course with the assistance of
the following staff who are also teaching relevant
Microbiology course for M.Sc Biotechnology students
