From the Principal's Desk

Started in 1980 in the picturesque city of Visakhapatnam with the vision to become a global leader in professional education, the College of Engineering GITAM has evolved into one of the most outstanding institutions of higher learning over the last 26 years.  This phenomenal growth owes itself to the tireless efforts of the renowned industrialist, parliamentarian and philanthropist, Dr. MVVS Murthi who has been guiding the destiny of GITAM with missionary zeal.

The College offers a basket of undergraduate courses in nine Engineering disciplines with an annual intake of 840 students.  Besides, ten postgraduate programmes in emerging and frontier areas are offered with an annual student intake of 208.  The well laid-out GITAM campus spread over 100 acres of a lush-green valley houses the six GITAM institutions namely, College of Management Studies, Institute of  Foreign Trade, Gitam Dental College and the College of Pharmacy.  The College of Engineering by itself occupies about 40 acres and is accommodated in three large buildings with a combined area of over 20,000 sq.m.  With a complement of highly qualified teachers and skilled supporting technical staff to serve the over 3000 students, College of Engineering, GITAM is one of the largest Engineering institutions in Andhra Pradesh.

A detailed profile of the constituent Departments of the College to be found in these pages.  It will be evident that the infrastructural facilities, the faculty and the ambience are among the best offered by any Engineering College.  It is important to point out that the College equips its students not only with state of the art technical knowledge to enable them to meet the challenges of global standards, but also integrates value education, social relevance and communication skills into its curriculum to mould the students as responsible citizens.  No wonder that they are among the preferred employees by many top-rated industries.  As a result, many GITAM alumni occupy top positions in prestigious institutions and organizations all over the world and some of them are highly successful entrepreneurs.

In recognition of its significant performance and achievements, the College has won several plaudits. It has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (AICTE).  The status of an ‘autonomous’ College has been conferred on it in 2003 by the University Grants Commission and the Andhra University – a unique distinction for any private Engineering College in the State of Andhra Pradesh.  And, it has been rated among the topmost Engineering Colleges by Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education.  The College will not rest on these laurels but will continue to strive for achieving global competencies with the help of a supportive Management and dedicated faculty.
