To cater to the immense demand for trained personnel in the sunrise sector of Information Technology, GITAM, College of Engineering, started an undergraduate programme in the subject in the year 2000.  Most of the students of the first batch have found placements in prestigious firms.  Nearly half of the current batch of final year students have offers of employment.  A postgraduate programme in Information Technologyis due to start in 2005.  The present Department has been carved out of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in the year 2004.
