Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme(TEQIP) Phase-II
Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) known as GITAM University has been notified as deemed to be University u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, on the recommendation of a joint committee consisting of members from UGC, AICTE and other relevant Statutory Authorities vide MHRD notification no. F.9-37/2006-U 3(A), dt. 13-08-2007.
Based on various criteria such as the nature of governance and leadership, academic standards, faculty strength, infrastructure facilities, etc., the MHRD ranked GITAM as ‘A’ category University among the universities of its kind. Recognizing the holistic functioning of the University, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, an autonomous body of University Grants Commission, accredited the University with ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.20 on a four point scale. GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM University had been selected under TEQIP Phase-II program of sub component 1.2, Scaling-up Post Graduate education and demand-driven R&D&I of MHRD, Government of India.
GITAM Institute of Technology being a constituent unit of the University strictly adheres to the rules and regulations of the University which are governed by the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be University) Regulations-2010.
Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was envisaged in 2003 as a long-term Programme of about 10-12 years duration to be implemented in 3 phases for transformation of the Technical Education System. As per TEQIP concept and design, each phase is required to be designed on the basis of lessons learnt from implementation of an earlier phase. TEQIP-II started a reform process in 127 institutions. The reform process needs to be sustained and scaled-up for embedding gains in the system and taking the transformation to a higher level. To continue the development activities initiated through TEQIP-I, a sequel project is planned as TEQIP-II. The Project duration shall be for four years (2010-2014).
To scale-up and support ongoing efforts of the Government of India to improve quality of Technical Education and enhance existing capacities of the institutions to become dynamic, demand-driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking, responsive to rapid economic and technological developments occurring at the local, State, National and International levels. It has a clear focus on the objectives to improve the overall quality of existing Engineering Education.
Objectives of TEQIP-II, sub component 1.2 is to significantly increase enrolment in PG programmes in engineering disciplines and enhance engineering research and development and innovation. Sub objectives are to improve quality and relevance of PG programmes, attract more and better qualified students for PG programmes, improve faculty qualifications and enhance management of the institutions for more effective governance.
