Established in the year 1980, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has made a mark in graduate and post graduate education meeting the global demands of engineers. The Department at present offers B. Tech and M. Tech (CAD/CAM and Machine Design), Five year dual degree programme (B. Tech + M. Tech) is being offered from 2010. The faculty in the Department closely interact with industry and bring their experience to bear on the curriculum so as to enable the graduates complete successfully not only at the national level but also at the global level. The Department has state-of-the-art labs and equipment to facilitate students acquire application skills. The Department provides facilities for students to learn soft skills and achieve holistic personality. Students are encouraged to participate in technical festivals organized by other universities. Student chapters of ISTE and Institution of Engineers (India) further hone students skills.

Industry- University interaction also reflects on the research activities carried out in the department, wherein Ph.D. students work on industry related problems for their Ph.D. degree and faculty undertake industry based research projects. Nano technology, Condition Monitoring and Robotics are the thrust areas for research and industry linkages.

The department has been undertaking sponsored research projects funded by HPCL, NSTL, DRDO, etc. The Department has excellent placement record with near 100 percent placements with compensation package ranging from Rs. 3.15 lakhs to Rs. 12.00 lakhs per annum
