The department was established in 1998 and currently offers M.Sc. in Microbiology and Food Science and Technology. The curriculum is so designed as to develop interdisciplinary skills among students to meet the requirements of industry and research organizations.
The faculty have been active in research as reflected in their research publications and research projects. Twelve research projects have been completed so far sponsored by UGC, HPCL, etc. Special thrust has been focused on research in microbial biofertilizers and bioremediation. One research project in this thrust area funded by UGC is in progress.
The placement record has been impressive with students joining National Institute of Nutrition, Indian Immunologicals, ICMR, Dr. Reddys’ laboratories, Aurobindo Pharma, Krebs Biochemicals, etc.
The department has been organizing community benefitting programmes in terms of creating awareness on health and nutrition.
